A round-up of interesting links

Goodness me! Ever since I started bookmarking links I wanted to share on my blog, there seem to be more and more of them by the day! In the past two weeks, I’ve especially found quite a few great blog posts that I wanted to share.

News stories:
* Holi: Festival of Colors – I don’t know how I’ve never heard of it before, but I absolutely love the way Hindus celebrate the arrival of spring.
* The Best Places To See Spring Flowers In Their Millions – I must go to these places!
* Altruism in Action: Japanese Surfer Hero Rescues His Wife, Mother and Others – This story is amazing and really uplifting considering all of the horrible news coming out of Japan lately. (I first heard about this on Encore! Life and this article was from a Surfider e-newsletter.)
* Abuse of Britain’s last circus elephant caught on camera & Anne the Elephant is Free from the Circus! – I was so upset when I read this first news article about Anne, a 57 year old elephant, being hit 48 times, but am now beyond pleased to know that Anne is out of the circus. It’s heartbreaking to know that animals go through such pain at human hands. One more reason to never, ever attend a circus with animals.
* Earth Hour 2011 – One of my favorite parts of Earth Hour is looking at the results afterwards. I especially love these from The Big Picture which you can click on to see the fade effect.

Great blog posts:
* Say ‘No’ to typing extra words – Krystal’s post over on the Village was not only funny, but I have to agree with her about word verification. Most of us go from one blog to the other, reading posts, leaving comments, and on to the next. I even made the comment to my brother that, ever since I made a blog and started commenting on other’s sites, I think my vocabulary is getting messed up due to all the weird letters that often times look like actual words on word verification.
* Help Levi’s “Unlock” 200 Million Liters of Clean Water With WaterTank Game – Remember my Waterless Levi’s jeans post? They’ve taken a step further to give clean water to those who don’t have any.
* small measures: eco-friendly ocean & waterway tips – These tips from Design*Sponge are great and make me want to go to the beach that much more!
* DIY Rustic Wedding Table Numbers – I cannot get over how cool these are, especially the illustrated numbers!
* A book of notes, for my mom – I’m quite certain that this is the best gift (item) anyone could possibly give someone.

Miscellaneous:
* PrettiePackaging – I’ve seen so many eco-friendly and pretty packaging techniques online lately. This one especially is so simple, but it automatically makes a bag or box look darling.

P.S. Happy April Fool’s Day! Don’t get tricked! But go ahead and tell me what jokes you pulled or were pulled on you. And no, ha!, none of these links are jokes. I’ll try to keep things shorter next time! Do you have any other suggestions that you think would improve my link posts?
