Every dead whale is one too many

How about this for an advertisement and raising awareness? Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, international non-profit marine wildlife conservation organization, teamed up with agency Lowe GGK to create this memorial for the 172 whales that have been killed thus far this year (from January to March 2011) due to whaling. They’ve placed 172 unique posters, each with a different photograph of a different whale, in the center of Vienna, Austria and they’ve empaled the posters on fence posts to bring to light the severity of whaling. I can only imagine the range of emotions I’d go through from seeing this while walking down the street (most likely excitement from seeing a pro-world campaign in such a public spot to sadness from really seeing how much 172 dead whales are). Because I know Sea Shepherd is equally concerned with the environment, I can only hope the posters are made from recycled paper. For more information on the posters and campaign along with a video showing activists hanging the posters, please go to BestAdsOnTV.com and Fubiz.net.

Omg, this is really sad! I love that they are bringing awareness to the public. That is a great thing but wow, seeing the different whales on the posters and how many they have killed (especially in ONLY 3 months!) definitely brought tears to my eyes! I can’t believe this. I wish there was something we could do to help stop it!

That is a very good campaign to raise awarness, I think they did a great job! It breaks my heart to see those pictures, but I guess that is sometimes the only way to really touch people!

Are you enjoying this beautiful sunshine lately??

so sad. good that they’re bringing awareness to it.

there’s huge campaigns here in china to stop shark hunting too. A lot of celebrities are supporting it and I think its slowly working.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for commenting and sharing your thoughts. I hope this campaign gets the attention it deserves and that whaling will becoming something of the past very soon.

Misty – There’s always something you can do. Sea Shepherd has a whole list of countries you can write to and ask to stop or help stop whaling: http://www.seashepherd.org/whales/what-you-can-do.html

Angel – Lately, I’ve been so happy to see that the US is taking such a huge stand against shark finning and year by year I’ve seen more coverage of it in China as well. I have hope and have a good feeling about shark finning slowly phasing out (or maybe even not all that slowly)!
