More good news, this time for chickens in the US

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and United Egg Producers (UEP) have joined up to better the lives of farmed chickens in the US. This was such great news to end the night on yesterday (and right after posting some other great news) and I love sharing good news with all of you! I only wish there were more of me to share all of this information with all of you, ha!

According to the HSUS, this “could result in a complete makeover of the U.S. egg industry and improve the treatment of the 280 million laying hens used each year in U.S. egg production.” Find out more about the law here.

But it hasn’t changed anything yet and the chickens still need our help. If you’re in the US, you can send this letter to your member of Congress asking them to “support federal legislation to phase out barren battery cages for egg-laying hens”. Especially if you eat eggs, please send this letter and ask others you know to send it as well and make the lives for these chickens much better than they currently are. Thank you!

thank you so much for both the good news and info on how to continue helping this cause. it’s awful how chickens are treated {as well as most other animals raised for meat}. one thing i love about living in california is that there are plenty of local farms who are raising chickens in healthy ways. more of our markets are carrying these farms’ products and you can even go visit the farms themselves and see for yourself how the animals live. it’s great. and of course, it’s becoming super trendy to own chickens, even in urban settings, which is the best choice of all.

This is good news! I can officially say I don’t eat eggs (soon for chicken!) and anymore but I am definitely going to send a letter to them! I hope this goes into affect relatively soon though!! Animals don’t deserve to be treated like that!! I went and read the link you provided and I just couldn’t believe some of the things they do to the hens and chickens! They don’t feed them for weeks to manipulate their laying cycle! I’m so glad they are even requiring that they will not let eggs or egg products be sold that do not meet the different requirements of this law. This is going to be such a good change!!
