The person you are

I’ve been reading this quote a lot lately in many different places and I’m finally getting the hint. My whole life since I can remember has been about planning and working towards the future.

During the tough days in school I’d be exhausted, but I’d tell myself that it’ll all be worth it and that it’ll lead to a better future. All the while, ruining my present time. There were so many days I’d tell my friends I couldn’t hang out because I was busy working on a project (my book, mostly). Yes, that may have paid off by my not being stressed even more than I was, but I also missed out on possible great times and a much happier me/life.

That’s not exactly something anyone wants to miss out on. But I can’t even think too much about that because then I’m living in the past. Sometimes I look back and think “I really like the person who I was”, but I’ve got to remember that that person just helped me get here where I am today. It’s not about who I was or who I will be, it’s about who I am, right this very second. The actions I take today, not the ones I took yesterday or will take tomorrow.

Life is all about the present moment and if we spend too much time out of it, we’re not really living life at all. We’re living in moments and fairytales and we need to realize that real life is so much more beautiful and worth paying attention to.

Have a wonderful weekend, all of you! I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll finally be able to go swimming! What are your plans? Whatever they are, I hope they’ll keep you fully immersed in the present and loving who you are. P.S. The quote is by a smart-thinking unknown source.

That’s such a great thing to remember. If we always wish we were somewhere else in our lives, we never get to appreciate where we are.

I love this quote, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. I too am obsessed with planning. Plan, plan, plan. Sometimes I wonder if the present is just too overwhelming for me to deal with and I prefer to dream of a future when I’ll be skinnier, more efficient, smarter, and just generally better.

It’s not that I am afraid of working at it, it’s just that I am not really patient, and I have to learn to trust that baby steps are a good way to go!

Are we on the same page or what?! So very true. My father always says, the power is in the present and you’re both right on.

PS. I hope that you get to go swimming today, sounds like a plan if I ever heard one. It’s going to be 90ish here! xoxo
