A bloody & barbaric tradition that needs to end

There aren’t too many things that upset (an understated word here) me more than torturing animals, especially if it is for absolutely no other reason than entertainment. I’ve said before that I don’t like to show gruesome photos on here because I know there are those who just can’t handle it or don’t need to see the images to be persuaded to help out. In this case, I really didn’t have much of a choice. Most of the images I looked through were so much worse than this one.

The photos of these events are so graphic that even The Big Picture had to censor a few (and I thought the non-censored ones were bad!). Viewing those pictures a few days ago, I had no choice but to write about bullfighting.

The majority of the Spanish population (72%) is against bullfighting and want it to end, but unknowledgeable tourists keep this business alive. When I was doing a demonstration in London against bullfighting, someone came up to me and told me that they participated in the running of the bulls and the bullfight in the ring and were disgusted. They got up and left as soon as they realized what they were supporting. His biggest regret was that he had already given money to this cruel and unnecessary event.

Many people don’t know that these bulls are barbarically killed with absolutely no chance of survival. Even if they were to kill the matador, they’ll be killed. They are exhausted after a terrifying run through streets and crowds of loud people and then are forced to fight to their death with zero chance of survival. According to the WSPA, “in Latin America and Europe combined, approximately 250,000 bulls die each year”.

A few places have put a stop to this tradition, but there are many still that continue it. I ask that you please send this email asking Spain’s prime minister to end this in Spain. Let others know how horrible this event is so that they may know the truth and never support bullfighting. Thank you!

I really agree with this.

Although I respect others’ historical cultures and traditions, with everything we now know about animals and how much trauma and pain they can feel, it really needs to be stopped.

I will send that email!

Oh this is just heartbreaking. I will never ever understand any sport involving the torture and death of animals (greyhound racing, bullfighting, etc.). It makes me sick.

Wow, this is horrible! I may sound totally naive when I say this, but I had no idea that they still did have bullfighting in Spain! This so horrible! Just reading your post almost made me cry thinking about what those animals go through! I am definitely going to send that email!!

I must say though, that is really awesome that guy got up and left when he realized what he was supporting. It does suck that he had already given money to them. But at least he realized it was wrong and left. I wish there were more people like that in the world. Then maybe, just maybe, there wouldn’t be anything like this today!

So awful. When we were in Spain we went to this famous bullfighting bar and the pictures on the wall nearly made me vomit…I had to leave to get some fresh air. And all the men in there thought it was hilarious that I couldn’t stomach it. Stupid macho men.
