A closer look at the One Tonne Life

I first wrote about the One Tonne Life project on January 20th and at that time I couldn’t find very much information about it. Since then the One Tonne Life website has added so much information; you can find out whatever you want about the family, the project, the idea, etc. They even have short webisodes where they’ve interview specialists and the family members. I received an email from Petra Cederhed of A-hus with a variety of photos to share with all of you. The first photos I posted of the inside of the house were 3D illustrations because that’s all I could find, but Petra supplied me with the real thing.

“The One Tonne Life Project was started to see if it is possible to live a climate-smart life without major compromises in our western lifestyle.” The appliances in the home are all what we consider necessary in today’s houses like washer and dryer, refrigerator, dish washing machine, etc. except for the fact that these are all the newest Siemens products on the market which are 40-50% more efficient than the standard. This house reminds me of a “smart-house” because it even has a way of measuring how much energy each action produces in the home. You can even check out how the family is doing at reaching their goal online.

To see the inside photos of the house make sure to continue reading…
Some of my favorite bits and pieces include the couch (I don’t know what about it I love so much… maybe it’s all the pillows, especially that single yellow one), the unique lighting features in each room, the living room painting (I’d love to have one just like it in my own home) and that super cool tree lamp.

This project is great for those who worry that living an eco-friendly life will require drastic sacrifices and changes in their lifestyle. Let me know if there is anything more you’d like to know about the project and I’ll do my best to get the information for you. You could also go to the One Tonne Life website to watch the webisodes I mentioned before, read what each family member had to say, and so much more.

The clean white space + pops of color are magnificent. I’m so inspired by the eco lifestyle and have made many changes at our own home. Another great read on eco-living is this one about a zero-waste home (http://www.sunset.com/home/natural-home/zero-waste-home-0111-00418000069984/).

This is so cool! That is awesome they sent you pictures of the family in the house!! And the house is just as cool as the 3-D pictures you posted before!! The living room picture, it looks oddly familiar, I just don’t know where I would have seen it before. It does look like something you would have too!! I’ll definitely have to go check out their website when I have more free time!
