Japan has suspended whale hunt… for now

I think I need to watch more news in the morning. There have been a bunch of animal stories lately. Whether the news is good or bad, it’s great to see that others care. Today I found out that Japan has put a halt to their whaling for the time being due to the “danger” they face from international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization Sea Shepherd. This is exactly what Sea Shepherd wanted so it’s a big victory. (You may have heard of Sea Shepherd from Whale Wars.)

I’d say a “huge” victory, but it’s not time to celebrate just yet. Sea Shepherd has been trying to stop Japanese whaling for years. There’s been a ban on whaling since 1986, but Japan continues to hunt through a loophole they call “research”. Check out the photos below. Don’t you find it kind of odd that they took the time to make up these signs in English and hold them up for others to see? It’s been proven that Japan continues to sell whale meat as food. To find out more about Sea Shepherd and what they’re doing to stop the whale slaughter, please click here or on any of the images I’ve posted. You can also read this article on The Guardian to find out more information on this particular story. It feels like we’re so close!

I don’t always agree with Sea Shepherd’s methods, but I do think there should not be science-based lethal research. It’s simply unnecessary — especially now when the delicate balance of our world’s ecosystems are being so upset by climate change.

OMG, YAY! ๐Ÿ˜€
I first heard about this through your blog ๐Ÿ™‚ What great news! To think about the hundreds of whales that this move saved…it’s wonderful. I hope this is only the beginning, that the Japanese whaling will be stopped altogether, forever.
Way to go, Sea Shepherd!! \o/

Omg that makes me sick just THINKING about them saying they are doing “research” on whales so they can kill them and sell the meat! That is so wrong!! This post does make me happy that they have been able to stop it (for the time being atleast). Hopefully they can stop it for good too!! I just can’t believe they could do something like this….even though it is CLEARLY illegal!
