Those who matter don’t mind

The infamous Dr. Seuss quote! I’m sure you knew it would show up here sooner or later. I’ve never owned a single Dr. Seuss book and it wasn’t until middle school that I fell in love with his messages and stories. It’s so hard not to care about what others think of us, but if we are constantly thinking about whose toes were going to step on then we can never fully be ourselves. We become the censored version of ourselves. Many people think I’m a bit too direct, but I really wish everyone was. If I didn’t speak my mind and stick to my beliefs, I’d never have accomplished anything that means the world to me now. I’m sure the same goes for most blogs out there. With my blog, I am able to express myself to the fullest and post all of my interests. That’s the best way to find others who are interested in the same things, just be yourself. We are told this over and over again and, yet, we continue to live in fear of others’ opinions. Can you imagine if everyone just did as this quote suggests? I try to be as honest to myself as possible, but I know that there is so much more I would do if I was 100% myself. What about you; anything/anyone holding you back? I chose this photo, that I took a couple years ago, because I am beyond ready for warm weather full of sunshine and flowers. I wish for you a weekend full of freedom to be you!

I love this post. And love that quote!
Isn’t it weird how we’re always told to ‘Be ourselves’? Like that would be such a hard thing to do! And just it is, sometimes. It’s pretty crazy how that works out!

Agreed on all counts. Dr. Seuss is big around here…my students are beginning word recognition, so we’ve been reading a lot of “Hop on Pop” and “Cat in the Hat.” I also live by and strive to instill (in them) similar sentiments to what you conveyed; so incredibly important!

For some reason, I have never come across this Dr. Seuss quote. I love it! Thank you, thank you!

I’m a lot less direct than you are. Culturally, I just grew up that way, and I’m a believer in the Thumper philosophy (if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all). But to each his own! Some of my very good friends are direct and the personality clash doesn’t matter bec I love them dearly–there’s an example of that Dr. Seuss quote in the flesh!

i love this quote too! i completely agree, being yourself and sticking to your own opinions and interests is a beautiful thing. people who are NOT direct are really difficult for me to deal with. i hate having to guess what someone is REALLY thinking and feeling, and i greatly appreciate the forward, direct people. love them, actually! i think the problem occurs when people forget that having different opinions is OKAY. so as kids we slowly learn that being direct equates people wanting to change us to think like them. so i think a lot of people have to unlearn what they took in as kids. does that make sense?

This is so true! I absolutely LOVE this quote!! Definitely love Dr. Seuss. And the photo is absolutely beautiful as well!!

I don’t really know if I would say a specific someone/something is holding me back but you know just as well as I do that I care WAY too much what people think of me. I wish I didn’t but it is true. So I do hold things in and I know I don’t say what I feel all the time. Otherwise, I’m sure half the people in my life would probably hate me. Or atleast, thats what I tell myself lol This is a great quote though. I really need to work on this as well….

Rachel – I often times wonder how different this world would be if we all did behave truly like ourselves from the very beginning. Often times, the negativity in this world comes from copying and caring too much what others think of us.

Kayla – I’m so glad you’re teaching Dr. Seuss to your students! You must be an awesome teacher! : )

Gabriella – I love the Thumper philosophy and find myself repeating it quite often. I feel as though I’ve almost nailed the “Be who you are and say what you feel because those you mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind” way and now I need to incorporate “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” a bit more. It’s all about a nice balance, ha! I love how you have a real-life example for so many of the tips/quotes I post!

Kimbirdy – Like I told you on your blog, completely makes sense! The problem is, though, that it’s usually so much harder to unlearn something than to learn it (except for math problems, ha!).

Misty – You tell yourself that half the world would hate you if you spoke the truth? I hope half the world isn’t that full of hate! Unfortunately, no matter what you do, it seems as though someone won’t like you for it. But like this quote says… those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind! : )

I love it when people are transparent and speak their mind. I think that makes it so much easier to get to know people and to form relationships. I love it when bloggers speak their mind. I feel more connected to their blog and their cause{s} that way.
