Life tip #19: Think positively

Happy Monday, I hope your weekend was a happy one! I was (and still am) so pleased that I finally shared photographs of the village I live in with all of you and that you’ve all left such lovely comments – thank you!

This life tip is actually really straight forward. Rather than thinking/saying “I hate mosquitoes”, think/say “I prefer other bugs to mosquitoes”. This is what I did and I felt better about the statement and the mosquito that was buzzing around my ear left me alone for the rest of the night. Maybe that was a pleasant coincidence, but I honestly do think that thinking positively helps our minds.

Just give it a shot. Instead of thinking “I don’t like”, “I hate”, and any other negative comment… try to rephrase it. Don’t say you hate your legs, DO say that you love them for letting you walk, run, dance, etc. Don’t say you hate your stomach for being bigger than you wish it was, DO say you love your stomach for doing so much hard work for you and that you’ll get where you need to be soon enough (and don’t just talk… follow through!). Don’t say that you hate spinach (how could you?!), DO say you prefer other veggies.

What are some positive thoughts you need to switch to? I’ve been thinking positively much more lately and I’ve already seen a change. Try it out and let me know how it goes for you!

this is so true and such a great reminder. this is pretty much 50% of my job as a therapist – helping people reframe their thoughts. we don’t realize how our language {even just in our thinking} effects our beliefs, and therefore our attitude and choices. reframing your thoughts like this has such a powerful {and pretty instantaneous} impact. thank you so much for sharing this!

I’m channeling lots of positivity right now. LOTS. I will get an incredible job, and find an amazing apartment, and all the pieces of my life will fall into place and be fabulous.

People poke fun at me for abiding by this mentality, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Cynicism doesn’t have a place in my world.

Brandi – I’m SO happy to hear that! Keep that positivity flowing and good things will come!

Tajna – Haha, yes! I love spinach, too, and I used to hate it!

Kayla – People make fun of you for thinking positively? What?! I’m so glad you don’t listen to them and continue shining your infectious happiness. : )

I love this life tip! And I will definitely start thinking more positively about my life! I know you said I seem sad lately (which I really am not! I promise!) but I’ve had a lot on my mind about my future. I’ve been thinking about all the things that “won’t ever happen for me” and being negative. But lately, I have turned my thinking around and have started thinking of different opportunities out there for me. I have started thinking more positively about work as well. I’ve spent too much time thinking negatively about the things in my life. I know it isn’t good for you. So I am definitely trying to improve upon them. Not to mention, if there’s something in my life I don’t like, I can always fix it. I mean, whats the point in complaining when it is easily fixable? I mean, its just that simple! Thanks for sharing this life tip! Its a great reminder to always think positively about everything even if you don’t see something positive!!
