The Longest Way

Sometimes you hear about an adventure someone took in their life and get completely inspired and feel that anything is possible. Christoph Rehage’s one year long walk from one side of China to the other is one of those journeys. He documented his trip through multiple photos and compiled this awesome little video. What makes it that much more interesting is that he completely shaved his head and didn’t cut his hair or beard until the end. Watch the video and, if you’re interested, you can find out more about his plan as well as why he did it at his website: TheLongestWay.com

I’m so pleased I watched this video on SocialVibe’s The Vibe one year ago and remembered to share it with all of you. What’s your crazy dream that you would love to do? Where would you travel to/from? I just want to go everywhere and wouldn’t even know how to choose!

That IS amazing! What an adventure. I watched the video and will check out his web site!

I’m like you, I want to go everywhere (well, almost!) and have a hard time knowing where to start. Italy and New Zealand (and after your “Where I Live” posts, Switzerland!) probably top my list. πŸ™‚ When I was a kid, I’d dream of riding a horse from one US coast to the other. And from my early teens through my 20’s, I really wanted to visit the then-USSR (and come home with a samovar and balalaika!) Now my husband and I talk seriously about exploring The Great Loop (plus Canada’s Maritime provinces and The Bahamas) on a sailboat. Even if they all end up being “armchair trips” in the end, it’s a lot of fun to dream about them, and to hear about the amazing journeys of others! Thanks for sharing this!

(And btw, I’m currently re-reading “A Walk in the Woods” by Bill Bryson, about hiking The Appalachian Trail!) πŸ™‚

I honestly just want to travel. Growing up in small town Iowa, living with grandparents has been an amazing upbringing, but it doesn’t exactly equal a lot of travel and cultural experiences. I want to soak up as much of this world as I can. That man’s story is absolutely inspiring! I love the things some humans do. It really keeps my hope afloat.

Wow! This was awesome! This halfway reminds me of Forrest Gump (just cuz he keeps running all across the country). So, he walked that entire way? That is so cool! It also reminds me of that girl (remember back in 4th grade) who hiked the entire Appalachain Trail? This video makes me want to go do that! That would be a totally awesome experience! Granted, I would definitely have to get into better shape and learn how to be able to survive out in the woods. But either way, that is so cool! This video really makes me wonder what different things I could do in my life. And hopefully, one day I will get to go do things like this!!

Laloofah – I’ve never heard of The Great Loop or the book you mentioned! I remember wanting to travel the Appalachian Trail when I was younger as well (as Misty mentioned in the comment above this one, a girl came to one of my classes in elementary school before and after her trip).

Torie – It’s pretty crazy to think how everyone’s life is so much different. Christoph talks about this walk on his website almost as if it weren’t a big deal, but here we all are in awe!

Misty – At the very end of the video, he shows a map of China with his trip. I don’t know if Christoph spent any time in the woods, but he did spend a year getting ready for it! I imagine any trip like this would take a lot of preparation if you plan on surviving through it!
