Take the conflict out of electronics and out of your hands

I first heard about conflict minerals from SocialVibe. I had no idea that practically every electronic I owned could be causing rape and death. That might sound extreme, but unfortunately, it’s happening all the time in Congo, Africa. These minerals are gold, tin, tantalum, and tungsten and they make up the components of  most electronics in the world. Products that contain these minerals are computers, cellular phones, mp3 players, video game consoles, digital cameras, etc. Some people will do whatever they can to get what they want and with the smallest cost to themselves. That is what’s happening in Congo and that price is added to your electronic when you purchase it. This needs to be stopped immediately and you can help!

Please go to Raise Hope for Congo’s take action page and find out which companies use conflict minerals and what they’re doing to make them conflict-free (they’ve made this page really easy because there’s a pre-written message that you can send to each company in one click), spread the word,  send a single email that will reach all of these companies letting them know you’ll purchase their conflict-free products once they’re available, make your school campus conflict-free, and those in America can urge their representative to cosponsor the Conflict Minerals Trade Act.

Oh my! I guess I always knew that there had to be some behind story to the eletronics. Like the movie “Blood Diamond” how the people would do anything to get the diamond of choice. But I guess I never really thought about the electornics like that. How could poeple let this continue to go on, its not even human decency…

April – Most people, like you and I, had no idea that something like this is even going on. I gave quite a few different options of what we can do to put an end to this and I hope it helps!
When I first heard about this, and still to this day, I am constantly reminded of Blood Diamonds.. the movie and the actual product.
