Life tip #14: Exercise

Happy Monday everyone! This life tip is so important and yet so often overlooked by many. It’s hard to know what’s right and what’s wrong when it comes to what type and how much exercise per person because the information is so varied and vast. Having read so many different opinions, I’ve come to the conclusions that everyone should exercise at least about a half hour each day, even if that half hour consists of a walk around the neighborhood to get some fresh air. Too much hard exercise, however, isn’t healthy and should be avoided. With this life tip, though, it’s important that you decide for yourself what is the perfect type of exercise for you. While one person may prefer to do an hour of yoga, another may choose to play a game of basketball for a half hour. The beauty of exercise is that it’s not one dimensional, there are tons of different forms of exercise and you can experiment until you find what you like best. Lately I’ve been going on bike rides, on very warm days I like to go running, dancing is probably my favorite form of exercise, and I want to get into yoga. Even so, this is something I need to work on and do every day rather than every other day or so, regardless of the weather. What about you, what’s your favorite form of exercise? What do you currently do? Is there a type of exercise you want to start doing?

Agreed! Exercise is very important! I wish I did a lot more of it!! My goal, this summer is to start exercising a minimum of 30 minutes a day. I will either go bike riding or walking and then just try and spend more time outside! Fresh air is really good for you and I don’t get enough of it! I just wish it would stop raining so I can go outside!!

I’ve also looked into doing yoga or some form of dance video! I am totally uncoordinated but I love to dance! Who knows, maybe that will help me 🙂 People at work have mentioned a “Hip Hop Abs” video and the Zumba videos. They say they are a great way to get moving and it is fun too! So that may be something I do on rainy days and I walk/bike ride the rest of the time! Or do both? Who knows…I just know that exercise should be FUN, not something you dread when you do it!

I hate moving so so much. But I really need to start doing something. I danced for 14 years and now I just want to stay on my butt all day. I loved yoga when I did it (and pilates too), so I should probably just get back to that. It’s the only form of exercise I didn’t hate.

I think the key with exercise is finding something you love. The barre tango class I’m taking is fantastic. I also work out with a trainer twice a week and run 3 days (okay, so maybe I’ve been running just 2). I really want to get back into yoga and maybe pilates again. More dance would be fun too — I heard some gyms have a Glee-styled class. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Ahhhh! It’s a good and guilty reminder for me. I’m SO lazy, but I also love sports. The difficulty for me is that I most enjoy playing organized sports like volleyball or tennis which requires other people to thoroughly enjoy it. Jon has been getting to bike ride a little more and I hope it grows on me! Thanks for this great and refreshing reminder Eva.

one reason i love living in a city is that we’re forced to walk everywhere. also my last apartment was 5 stories up – carrying groceries upstairs was a work out in itself 🙂
